Ljungberg hopes for role in Arsenal revival
Freddie Ljungberg says he has no intention of leaving Arsenal during the summer and is determined to help them challenge for the Premiership title next season.Ljungberg, 30, struggled to command a regular first-team place last year after a succession of niggling injuries, and there were fears he could leave the Emirates Stadium. There has been interest from Spanish and Italian clubs since the end of the season and, with the uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of manager Arsene Wenger, Ljungberg could have taken the easy option of ending his nine-year association with the club.
However, the Swede says his relationship with Wenger is as strong as ever and he remains confident that Arsenal can challenge at the top of the table.
"This will be my 10th season with Arsenal and I cannot wait to start the season with them," Ljungberg said. "I am very much looking forward to the opening game against Fulham. It is great to start the season with a London derby."
West Ham and Portsmouth have also shown strong interest, but Ljungberg says the speculation is nothing new and he is focused on getting a good pre-season behind him.
Ljungberg's agent Claes Elefalk added: "For the last four or five years there have been teams knocking on the door wanting to buy Freddie. But he has no intention of leaving the club."

Yeahhhhhhh!!!! :o)
I'm so happy about that!
Yes the man still speaks haha. I'm so glad right now, this really brighten up my day. What would this American do without good ol Paulie? hahaha. I'm excited like Freddie, he seems to be more pumped up then last season. I think he really thinks we can win some titles and I do too. Long live the mighty Gunners baby!!!
Oh yeah Angel MLS seems to be getting better. I'm not sure what team I will be supporting yet. I'm so into the I think it's called the "Gold Cup" that's going on right now. My god USA is playing so good to me. Tim Howard owns
Howards a good keeper. And yes, what would do without Paul....thanks Paul, for keeping this site up. I remember back when it was the Fredrik Ljungberg Pages.
Yes, all the pro-Freddie news really brightened my day as well.
I guess I'd be supporting the Galaxy as thery're right here. I used to follow Chivas USA games because I had a friend who played for them but he got transferred back to Mexico. Now they're not as much fun without him...:(
I hope Freddie comes back and scores a bunch for Arsenal....so then his detractors can shut the **** up.
Freddie's staying, Freddie's staying! He said so!!!!
Yeah when I first found the site it was the Fredrik Ljungberg Pages. I'm glad you kept this site up to Paul. How about we go fly to England and take Paul a birthday cake. hahaha
The detractors need to know their roles and shut their mouths. Fred's a legend dammit!! Yeah I'm going to be support LA Galaxy too their making some huge moves as far as who their signing.
Ahh you guys!! You all know it's always a pleasure and never a chore!!
Hey Paul, I plan on coming back to London for a couple of games now that I know Freddie is staying.....I can at least buy you a pint!!
king_freddie....have you heard the Henry/Barca rumors? I think they're for real this time.
You know after reading what Freddie said and what Thomas said about how their ready and excited about the season and want to stay here no matter what changed my view on this.
Henry says "At this moment I'm a Arsenal player (right now)". This is far from what he said a few months ago when he was saying he was a Arsenal player for life and all of that.
2 epl titles, 3 f.a and a record breaking 226 goals!!! If he is ready to go then he deserve to go out with a big party. He didn't do us like somebody I know did last season (hint hint welcome to the club Gallas). I wish him luck but the only thing I demand is for Arsenal to get the biggest amount of money they can and I mean drain Barca!!!
Sometimes people bash Arsenal by saying they depends on Henry to much sometimes. Last season it seems like when he's out they feel the pressure and everybody stepped up.
We beat the best teams in the epl without Henry. I think we can have Gilberto as captain and replace Henry with a huge big time striker or just a good player that can score us some goals because we got RVP and Manny. Somebody please take a striker from Tottingham
Our squad is deep Cesc, Clichy, Thomas, Gilberto, Freddie etc we'll be alright. I just saw a video of our new goal keeper WOW that guy is out of hand.
Well it's offical our King Henry is off to Barca. He said it himself now. Wow it still hasn't hit me he's really really gone. I guess it won't really hit me until I really see him in a Barca shirt. I still think Wenger know what he is doing like always but dame.
SKY SPORT NEWS make it seem like the man died. Their showing all his goals and interviews and everything, their making me want to cry. I'll never forget the first game I saw when he and Freddie did this great back and forward and back and score play that made me a Gunner fan for life. Well I guess here is the test, either our boys will come out crying or their going to come out swinging.
£16m - I would have thought he was worth much more than that! Even though I'm not a big fan of Henry it will be a big loss player wise and psychologically for Gunners. I read now that there's speculation over Wenger himself now. It all seems a bit up in the air at the Emirates at the moment. At least there will be a bit of stability with Freddie staying though!
I had a feeling when Dein left Henry would follow. Well, we did fine without Henry last season and would have done a little better if RVP hadn't been injured I think. I'm glad Freddie is staying....so...I'm trying to look at things on the bright side; maybe without Henry as a draw it'll be easier for me to get tickets.....?
Jeez the rumors just don't stop. The newest one is that once Sven Goran-Eriksson takes over as new manager of ManCity, Freddie is one of the targets. *sigh* Freddie just said he wanted to stay.....I can't imagine that he's want to play for City.
Man come on not City and not Sven again, didn't England get enough of him!! Now if Freddie in up in City I swear that would really piss me off. I can deal with alot of other teams but City hell no. Sven better go find somebody else, Freddie Ljungberg the captain of Sweden playing for City almost sounds like a cruel joke.
Man City!! Just how low do they think Freddie is prepared to go? I can't see him ever going to play for the Council scum. They are about to be taken over by an "alleged" corrupt Thai politician with money that might not actually be his! I can't even believe that Sven would even consider managing there either!
Yep Paulie your right, wrong Manchester team to be going to right haha. Okay I just got some bright news, well to me it is Wenger is about to get Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel. Now Ryan Babel I love that guy he's soo Arsenal (he's a die hard fan). I heard he might be get Anelka back. If he's going to come in and score like he has with Bolton this past season then fine but I'm for the other two Dutch kids more. Those two with RVP and Manny would kill.
Yeahhhh we won the Gold Cup!
Hey guys...there have been several news articles out where Freddie is saying that he wants to retire at Arsenal....YAY! He's so loyal....one of the reasons we lubs him.
We love you Freddie....bald head and all!!
